Questions and answers you can ask me if needs answers

What if you had to ask me some questions and I had to reply them. I got a set of such questions which I thought to answer, if you have any such questions (not derogatory),comment and I will answer the same. This will be a friendly platform for me to interact with people who truly enjoy my blog and wants to know me more as a person.

1) Do you love a public or a private life?

Ans: As a blogger, I comment on various things; I am active on social media, but is a very private person. I dislike people interfering in my private matters and so do I respect other's personal space. I never want to be interfered when I am with family/close friends, say like when I am shopping or so.I was very shy during school days, but now enjoy few public events.

2)People may think that you are someone who they can't approach if you are too private.

Ans: It is not that I cannot be approached, there is a time and place for everything. I always accept another one's view point and tries to find out different aspects of something before I respond. I never beleive that I am right always, so I like people approaching me if they genuinely need me, I too do the same. As a social animal, humans have to support each other.

3) We don't see the artist in you lately, any new drawings lately?

Ans: I have been very busy these days, with both personal and professional works. Moreover, I draw when I feel like it, as it something creative and cannot be forced. Unfortunately nothing new lately, but you can expect something

4) Recently, you showed your support to the LGBT community, can we know how come you took the decision?

Ans: The LGBT community has their rights as human beings and we should give them an opportunity to work and lead a decent life, if that is what they wish to do; we always speak of gender equality, democracy etc but we cannot say we are in a secular place if any discrimination is present. I strongly condemn the fact that even in the modern society the LGBT community is feeling insecure and is forced to do things they do not like. This is a human rights issue and I openly support them.

Is it just to crucify technopark after the Attingal double murder case? / ടെക്നോപാർകിനെ ക്രൂശിക്കണോ

I thought for some time before writing this post after reading various reports in the media crucifying Technopark, as it's 2 employees were the prime accused in the Attingal double murder case. The case is widely discussed over the media and we as techies strongly condemn the action of the accused.

But is it right to think that the wrong action of 2 employees of one of the many IT companies in Technopark should be generalized as the behavior of all people working there. This is very wrong. First of all, what everyone should understand is Technopark is giving employment to a lot of youngsters and others alike for more than two decades. Technopark saved many of us from going to Chennai and Bangalore, but helped us to work in Kerala itself keeping us near to our family. It is a culmination of different companies and is not a single company. So the culture of one company is not similar to another and so does work nature and business vary. So it will be cruel to say the fault of a few in a generalized manner.

The entire techie community is facing great deal of harassment already from some auto drivers, house owners ,shop keepers etc and now this case has given people a topic to make fun of the highly skilled and hard working techie community. Crimes do happen in all walks of life, in various places and technopark is just another work place and we cannot expect it to be 'paradise'. Please judge wisely and respect everyone, rather than generalizing views.

Big "NO" in offices and corporate worlds

I have seen many heated discussions on this topic and recently got call from a colleague on what are the big "NO" when one joins a corporate office. It more or less depends on the region you are working in or the country, the traditions etc: but more or less we can find certain ground rules that are considered a big "NO" in the office environment.

(1) DRAMA...Please no
--------------------------
Some people consider the officer as a stage and themselves as an actor and shows all the drama in office..Whether they get a hike, they get some extra work or whether it be anything, they let the whole office know by creating a hype..This not only creates negativity as you try to be the center of attraction but will make others think to stay away from you (which you possibly don't want to happen)...If you think you are the sole entertainer in the office, please open your eyes, entertainment at times are fun; if you do it every day, well you will be a subject of joke to others. Your workplace is not a serial, so no drama, which means talk clearly about your roles and responsibilities without drama and never disclose things to people who are not interested in it or who can't benefit from it (you waste their time and yours).

By avoiding drama, also ensure that you are not the chatterbox (disturbing others) or the one carrying unnecessary rumors. Up to a certain point, people may enjoy this, but not often, avoid these fully if possible.

(2) TOUCHING...NO NO and NO
------------------------------------------
This was one topic that garnered a lot of popularity when it was mentioned that touching someone without their consent is considered a sexual offense..As per etiquette and moral values, you should not touch another person, especially one of opposite gender, in the office..The cameras are watching you and even if it is not, this is considered a very poor manner to behave in a corporate office..Remember that this is your workplace and not a club, so behave as per that..No touching unless your job demands it (like a doctor)

(3) EATING AT DESK is a genuine NO NO
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Often people try to adjust their time by eating at desk, this is another big NO at office especially if it includes foods that create smell (non veg/chewing gums) or liquid (colas or so) as it can spill destroying machine parts and can even attract ants/such things that can create further problems. Never leave any mess in office that can cause discomfort to your colleagues or cleaning staff. This is especially true about restrooms (make sure you flush toilets properly after use).

(4) Picking/flossing etc NOT at your desk
-----------------------------------------------
Nose picking, flossing etc: looks unhealthy in office, avoid touching the face completely if possible. You can use restrooms for this but ensure that nobody is watching you doing the same. Restrooms can also be used for wearing contact lenses (if any) rather than doing it at desk.

(5) FOUL language is a BIG no
-------------------------------------------------------------------
To use abusive language, verbally or by action, is not only a crime, but strictly against office ethics. Avoid using any such language as it permanently tarnishes your image. Don't try to threaten others as everyone wants a safe work environment.

(6) No personal things at office or Office at home
------------------------------------------------------
Unless you are a work from home person, do not carry work home..Also, do not carry personal problems (financial, personal fights etc) to office..Office is not a place to discuss these issues, you may discuss this at free time in office, but not during work hours. Many employees block social networking and related sites to avoid these things, but employees should exhibit this responsibility themselves.

(7) Coughing or sneezing UNCOVERED
---------------------------------------------
This is not only bad manners, but sneezing or coughing without covering nose/mouth can cause germs to spread and make others sick; if you have a genuine reason like sick, take leave rather than infecting others, this is considered good manners too.

How to suit yourself in a SUIT,some general tips

The suit is an accepted uniform/trademark of a gentleman in almost all occasions. Well, last day, I happened to see a gentleman in a suit who defied all laws of wearing a suit, though he was wearing one. I am not a fashion guru, but just thought to share some basics on how to handle a suit when you wear the same.

#1:   SHOULDERS should be where shoulders are
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A suit line gives a genuine look basically when the shoulder line should end where our shoulder should end. The shoulder line should never exceed the shoulder, this basically happens if you go for a suit in a shop without customizing the same. Always customize as needed the suit you are wearing, we all don't have the perfect model body. The shoulder pad should never go beyond your shoulder. The below image shows in red the wrong shoulder pad.

A custom made Armani suit will give the fine lines and fit,but if you don't have the money keep this point in mind.

#2:  SAME WIDTH for lapel and tie
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not talking about millimeters, but overall the width of the lapel and tie should be somewhat same; this gives a balanced look. Thin lapels are a modern trend and wide lapels are old fashioned, I would say choose the one which you feel good.

#3:  WATCH attitude
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The watch that you wear with the suit should be a good one (I go for an Armani) that improves the overall look and also helps build impression if you have to shake hands or place it on the table for meetings and helps build impression (don't flash it, let others see it naturally).

Look how well the Bulgari watch improves the suit look of Bradley Cooper below

#3:  CLEAN than branded
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a branded suit won't give an impression, but a clean suit definitely will. If you happen to spill anything on it, dry clean within 48 hours to avoid the stain; 2-3 times dry cleaning a year will ensure that the suit will last longer. The pants of the suit may have lap stains or creases on the crotch area, if so get it cleaned (more important than your jacket cleaning).

Stain will totally spoil the suit look, so avoid having them. Be careful while eating wearing your suit , especially drinking and avoid as much as keeping an ink pen in your suit pocket.

#4: Pocket SQUARE, a mark of elegance
---------------------------------------------------------------
A pocket square, which is neither matching your tie/fabric material or pattern of suit to bring in contrast helps to add extra polish to your suit look.

The below image shows how to nail a pocket square (don't just stuff it like a handkerchief, but follow this method)

#5: NO collar gaps please
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

If after wearing your suit/jacket, you see that the jacket lapel and the collar of your shirt is having a gap in between, that's a poor suit/ an ill fitting one. This fashion faux pas is really bad and avoid this at any cost(see the red circle in the below pic).

#6: DARK, but not always black
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In western cultures, black suits are for funerals. Except for that, opt for a charcoal or dark grey suit which will fit in for more occasions as it goes well with more colors.

#7: THIN matching belts
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
No fashion experiments with big belts if you want to look elegant, choose a belt that is thin and same color as your shoes.

#8: SHOE COLOR matching with suit color (not same color)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check the below chart to see how this match has to be made, if you don't want the fashion police to catch you.

#9: DOUBLE VENTS in the BACK, modern and yes, more stylish
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The double vents trend have been in demand for a short time for being more flattering for larger figures; moreover the classic "hand in pocket" look is your dream, which double vents will improve with more space.

#10: CASUAL and TRENDY, go for single button peak-lapel jacket
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#11: Formal business look for suits
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is always a role for suits for formal business meetings or such work related occasions, here the best one to maintain will be a double button, notched jacket; this has style and gentleman looks combined which goes well with the attire that is expected for such meetings.

#12: Savile row fold for pants
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This method of folding suit pant will prevent it from falling off the hanger and thus the pant will be in good shape.

#13: Hand space within the suit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After wearing the suit, we should be able to slip our hand between the chest and buttoned jacket so that we can smoothly move our hand, it should feel close fitting but that shouldn't prevent hand space.

#14: UNBUTTON  before sitting
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Always make sure in order to avoid ruining your suit, unbutton it fully before sitting.

#15: SECOND LAST button at or above navel
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first/top button of a two button OR the middle button of a three button suit should come just above the navel.

#16: WINDSOR knot for tie
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Always use the classic Windsor knot for the tie, a full or half Windsor depending on the size of your head. Your friends can help to say whether you have a big head (full knot) or a small one (half knot).

Always go with the classic windsor knot for your tie, but use the size of your head to determine whether you should go half or full windsor.

#17: UNBUTTON last button of vest
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The three piece suit comes with an inner vest, if going for this look, the last button unbuttoned will give the perfect look; though it may look good for many without unbuttoning the last button.

#18: VEST rules
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vests have a purpose like adding warmth during cold climates, better use it with single breasted suits so it is visible. Vests add a formal touch for the suit.

#19: Sleeve CUFFS should be visible only half an inch
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sleeve cuff just behind your watch should be just half an inch (also on non watch wearing hand) and for a harmonious look this length should be same as the length of collar visible from behind.

#20: UN STITCH needed things
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Use a very fine, precise and sharp enough scissors to unstitch the jacket pockets, remove tack stitches of vents, embroidered lapel from jacket's left sleeve. We have to be very careful in this to avoid ripping the suit thus ruining it or rip the fabric or neighboring threads.

#21: LONG socks with suit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Always use long socks to avoid others seeing your (hairy) legs while sitting down.

#22: DARK ties please
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your tie should be darker than the dress shirt to make contrast.

#23: LONG suit jacket/top
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ideally, the suit jacket should be long enough to cover your butt and zipper of your pant.

#24: Tie should JUST REACH/SHORTER than waist band
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#25: Pant LENGTH matters
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Modern style gurus agree for the hem to just reach the top of shoes, but the traditional method (business looks) agree for the hem to cover the lace of the shoes.

#26: SWEATSHIRT if you sweat a lot
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wear a sweatshirt inside if you sweat a lot. Ensure deep necked sweatshirt so they don't peek out of your shirt destroying the entire suit look.

If you sweat a lot, wear an undershirt.

#26: DIMPLE, the height of elegance
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A simple dimple on the tie, non symmetric one, can add elegance and care free look and add contrast to the otherwise classic suit look thus improving overall suit look. No wonder people will congratulate if you can nail the dimple. Use your finger rather than dimple clip and a good quality tie.

Finally, go for the dimple.

Top places I visited in Malaysia

I visited Malaysia during December 2013 and it was a really great experience to see a country where culture meets scenic beauty, where technology meets quality of living and the greenery of the country really attracted me. The way Malaysia is preserved, especially the rain forests which are untouched, aging more than the ones in Africa is a treat to watch.

As a reminder of the travel I made in Malaysia, wanted to jot down few places I visited and thought was of interest. (I agree that I missed a lot of beautiful islands and other places due to a busy schedule)

1) The Petronas Towers
-------------------------

I am pretty sure that the Twin Towers/Petronas towers is by far the most important place or at least the most associated image when someone thinks about Malaysia. These tall twin towers which is the headquarters of Petronas petroleum stands aloft in the sun as one of the tallest buildings in Malaysia, but at night, the whole building is illuminated and that is almost visible across Kuala Lampur. I couldn't enter the building as I was on a busy schedule, but the architectural wonder by Cesar Pelli is a must watch for people interested in architecture. The towers really form a portal to the sky above,a door to the indefinite.

2) The Kuala Lampur Tower (KL Tower)
--------------------------------------------

Yet another attraction near the twin towers is the KL tower. One could see the latest vehicles on the pavement o KL tower and shops with amazon parrots and other wonders, but once you enter the KL tower by the high speed lift(you will travel 50m in 2-3 secoonds or even less), its another world with world class observatories and souvenir shops that include chocolates too..You can see entire Malaysia (even the Genting highlands) from the top of KL tower and people can take the best topographical pictures of Malaysia from here.

3) Batu Caves
-----------------

The Batu caves is a limestone hill filled with caves, which was just around 8 km from KL (we reached pretty fast there than I expected). It gives the feel of a Hindu temple region in India and is very different from the minaret style architecture(Muslim) that I usually saw in KL or other places. The environment is filled with prayers of Murugan (a 140 ft Murugan statue at the entrance made of concrete, steel bars and golden paint definitely adds a grandeur to the place) in various temples dedicated to Murugan , Hanuman etc..The nearby lake has many fishes to which devotees can give food, and the pigeons and monkeys too come in to share the food. The birds including peacocks are caged. I went to the top of the caves climbing 272 steps (stopping in between to watch the long tailed macaque monkeys crossing the steps and sitting on nearby trees). Once I entered the cave, it was silent, as if entering some old caves in movies, water dripping from limestone rocks, statues of Hindu deities, paintings along the walls which are many years old, temples dedicated to different deities, the place gives a unique feel.

4) Merdeka Square/Independence Square
-----------------------------------------------

A visit to a country cannot be complete if we do not visit the heritage of that place. The Independence square is a vast area where the Malaysian flag was first hoisted after independence in 1957. The fountain, pictures, related cultural buildings and especially the panorama of various buildings including banks around Merdeka Square gives an awareness of how grand Malaysia truly is and how much they give importance to cultural heritage.
